What a ride it’s been to transition from artist to professor. I’ve had my own ways of photographing and editing for so long that it’s been wild to now try and EXPLAIN what I do.
Collaboration has always been a huge part of my creative process. Dave Burgess has been my mentor this year (though he says we mentor each other) and I was honored that he accepted my request to co-host a dance photography workshop for my Introduction to Photography students.
It was a huge ask for my beginner students to transition from learning camera controls to full photography workshop mode and a crash course in flash. But that’s what experiential learning is all about! Some people learn best when pushed into the deep end.
So grateful for @gvsudance to invite their dancers to learn alongside my students. Their patience and grace shines through!
Additionally, I am grateful to Amanda Pitts for being an additional professor on hand for assistance and a creative director for the workshop.
Feeling very inspired for my very first semester teaching @gvsu
